Lemmy, il padrino dello Speedmetal, non ha mai tentennato nell’esprimere se stesso. In una carriera che è iniziata a Blackpool con gli ormai dimenticati da tempo Rocking Vicars e dopo aver affiancato gli Hawkwind prima di formare i suoi Motorhead, il non tanto affascinante bassista non è mai rifiutato le polemiche. Questo è il punto di vista di Lemmy su tutto e su tutti…nelle sue stesse parole.

Noi (Hawkwind) ci eravamo abituati a salire sul palco in stato confusionale, mescolavamo tutto il cibo e le bevande con acidi alla Roundhouse (un locale di Londra, ndt). Eravamo a dir poco irresponsabili.

Noi (Motorhead) stiamo già durando quattro anni più a lungo del Terzo Reich. (1991)

Non è che noi stessimo proprio provando a essere “il gruppo più fragoroso del mondo”. E’ che a noi piace il volume alto. La cosa dell’essere fragorosi è che tu devi essere bravo altrimenti crei confusione, sebbene l’impenetrabile confusione di uno può essere musica pura per un altro.

Alcuni dei nostri primi concerti sono stati di supporto ai Damned, il che ha dato inizio al cross-over, ma anche così direi che abbiamo avuto più noi da dire nel punk che tutti gli altri.

Non sono mai uscito con uomini. E’ un mio modo di fare, mi piacciono le ragazze. Questo è il solo motivo per cui mi occupo di musica. Ho scoperto che puoi indurre le ragazze a spogliarsi se hai una chitarra e i vestiti se li tolgono ancora più velocemente se la sai suonare.

La prima volta che venni arrestato era nel ’68. Stavo vivendo in una casa nella strada della stazione di Polizia di Earl’s Court e nella quale molti altri ragazzi stavano spacciando un sacco di droga per il mondo. Un giorno che tornai a casa il giardino era pieno di poliziotti coi manganelli.

Quanto più lungo sono rimasto sveglio? Due settimane.

Non raccomando il mio stile di vita. Mi ci sono adattato dopo molto tempo. Ucciderebbe la maggior parte delle persone.

Non è il lavoro ideale per una durevole, fedele e amorevole relazione.

Quello che ci fa andare avanti è una tenace persistenza. Il rifiuto a mollare.

Lemmy, the Godfather of speed metal, has never shied away from expressing himself. In a career that began in Blackpool with the now long forgotten Rocking Vickers and included a stint with Hawkwind before forming his own Motorhead, the sometimes less-than-handsome bassist has never shied away from controversy. Here’s Lemmy’s views on anything and everything…in his own words.

“We (Hawkwind) used to go on stage in all kinds of messes, and we spiked all the food and drink down the Roundhouse with acid. We were very irresponsible”.

“We (Motorhead) have been going four years longer than the Third Reich”. (1991)

“It’s not like we were trying to specifically be the ‘loudest band in the world’. We just like it loud, you’ve got to be fairly good or else it’ll just be a mess, although one man’s impenetrable mess is another man’s pure music”.

“Some of our first gigs were supporting the Damned which started a cross-over thing, but even so I’d say we had as big a hand in the punk thing as anyone”.

“I’ve never hung out with men. That’s my thing – I like girls. That’s the only reason I’m in the music business – I discovered you could get women to take their clothes off if you had a guitar. And they come off a lot faster if you can play it”.

“The first time I was busted was ’68. I was living in a house just down the road from Earl’s Court police station where the other guys were dealing a lot of shit around the world. I came home one day and the garden was full of policemen with shovels”.

“What’s the longest I’ve ever been awake? Two weeks”.
